How I Cured my Psoriatic Arthritis
In late April-early May of 2021, I was running about 3 miles 5 days a week. I woke up one morning to my feet being insanely swollen and assumed this was because I needed new running shoes. I went to Fleet Feet to get fitted and even what should have been the most comfortable shoe felt horrible. My feet were so swollen I couldn’t even fit into my sandals. I felt so lost. Not too long after, the same feeling transferred to my fingers. I couldn’t stand having to be reliant on people for the smallest of things like pulling my pants up. If there’s anything that makes you feel grateful and humbled.. it’s that. I told everyone around me I don’t think I had ever thanked God for the mobility and strength in my fingers before this happened. That pain and inflammation went on that whole summer while I was waiting to see a rheumatologist. I finally got in to see one that August and was prescribed a low grade chemo drug that didn’t even really help the situation - it really just put a band aid on it. I was even more irritable, depressed, my hair was thinning, etc. Later that following spring of 2022, I saw a nurse practitioner that advised I just change my diet and eat anti-inflammatory foods. I am unbelievably thankful for the power of food. I cut out corn, gluten, alcohol, and it didn’t take too much longer for my body to adjust back to normal. Since then, it is under control just from eating a cleaner diet. Even my skin was totally impacted by it too..
